Large and Multi-site Telephone Systems

Some telephone systems are definitely not suited for large organisations or those with multiple sites. It is difficult to refer to these here as there are so many! Indeed some systems cannot expand beyond certain limits or simply do not allow you to network sites together.

However, others do work brilliantly for larger or multiple-site businesses and organisations. By large, we mean 50-500 users. Anything larger would be considered 'Enterprise level'. By 'Multiple' we refer to anything with 2 sites or more.

Systems for large businesses and organisations

Generally, we would normally recommend either an AVAYA IP Office IP500V2 system (maximum 1,000 users) or a Mitel MiVoice Office 250 (maximum 250 users) or MiVoice Business Solution (many thousands of users). 

Systems for multiple sites

The AVAYA IP Office Platform allows you to connect multiple sites together using AVAYA's Small Community Networking. This offers a range of cross site features but not full functionality. See Mult-Site AVAYA IP Office for more detail.

The Mitel MiVoice Office (formerly Mitel 5000) also allows you to connect multiple sites together and does this quite well using some middleware called the CT Gateway. However, one important feature is not available across multiple sites which is hot-desking so if this is important, the MiVoice Office is not the correct product.

The Mitel MiVoice Business (formerly Mitel 3300) is a fantastic multi-site communications platform and allows sites to be connected with full functionality as well as business continuity and clustering options for optimised multi-site resiliency.

Multiple small sites - eg Retail

Whilst all of the above systems would handle this kind of environment, we would normally recommend a hosted system such as our Horizon product as this is much easier to deploy and manage across small multiple sites and probably more cost-effective in most instances.
